Make good things happen

Abi, Thank you so much ! Come and support me on Ulule :-))
Yes, I can allow you to show my pictures to your friends, but not to use on facebook. I don't put them myself, so...
Good luck with your project, and let me know.

Pooky, merci !

Hi Eve!
I just came across your blog right now! Fantastic!
Here is my story! I am expecting my first baby for the end of June and I am a little bit "lost", don't know how to prepare for having a good start... Montessori method is something I trust a lot and care about very much. But I don't find any info about the newborn... My BIG worrying questions are:
1. Should the baby share the parents' sleeping room? My intention is to make the baby sleep alone in his room, in his bed from the very beginning...but friends around do exactly the opposite...
2. Is it there an ideal age to go to the "crèche"? My mother offers her help, but I don't know what's the best option for baby's development. In my area, I can find Montessori schools, but they accept kids only as from 15 months...Is there a reason behing all this?
I hope you will answer my questions and look forward to joining your community -:)
Till then,
All the best,
Judith

Hi Judith,

1- what I think, is that the baby must stay in the parent’s room, at least the first 3 to 6 months. She needs to feel your presence. There must be a continuum after birth. The first 3 months the baby needs to be with you along the day and the night. She has spent 9 months entirely with you ! She has no idea that she can be different from you !
But, you can prepare a montessori area in the room for your baby : she can sleep on a big mattress on the floor, with a carpet and cushions to prevent the fall. With a miror on the wall near the bed, so she can see herself during the day time when she rests on her mattress.
On the mattress, during the first 2 months you can put a crib for the night. The baby likes to be in a small place, as a nest, in the first time after birth.
If you want to moove your baby in her room after 6 months, you may prepare the room in advence, so she can stay in that place during the day and for his nap.

You can read this book : Montessori from the start by Paula Polk Lillard. It’s a good book.
There’s a description of a montessori room.

2- Yes there is a reason why Montessori school do not take toddlers under 15 months. The baby is not enought constructed to assume others. His learnings do not have to be dependant on the groupe.
The baby has to construct herself with an adult, and education begins at home.
At 15 months, the toddler is ready to begin activities of practical life, with adult assistance. If you can have him with you at home that’s better. But if you have to work, He wil be happy in an Toddler Montessori Class, because they will respect his self construction.

I hope you will understand my bad english... sorry for that ;-)

Come and support the Nido project on Ulule. Even a little support is important for me !!!
You can also speak about it around you to make some buzz ;-)
Thank you, and enjoy your last month of pregnancy. (My Liv was born on the 27th of june !)

Eve a dit…
